Effectiveness of a Nursing Intervention on Caregivers' Knowledge About Pressure Injuries in Bedridden Older Adults

Introduction: Pressure injuries are considered a health, social and economic problem, which implies suffering, loss of autonomy and personal and family wear and tear, often invisible and underestimated, which has slowed down the progress of its knowledge, detection and detection until recently. and detention.
Objective: To identify the effectiveness of a Nursing intervention on caregivers' knowledge about pressure injuries in bedridden older adults.
Methods: Quasi-experimental study of educational intervention type in 48 informal caregivers, belonging to the health area of the Ramón López Peña polyclinic, in Santiago de Cuba in the period from September 2022 to September 2023. The educational strategy was carried out in three stages: diagnostic, development and evaluation. To obtain information, a questionnaire was applied to the participants. Variables such as: age, sex and level of knowledge were studied. The MC Nemar test was used to validate the results.
Results: Females between the ages of 36 and 50 predominated, with (45.83%) hired, housewives, with a high school education level, who before applying the educational program only 8.33% had knowledge adequate on pressure injuries that changed to 90.90% after the intervention.
Conclusions: The educational intervention was effective in increasing the knowledge of caregivers of bedridden older adults about pressure injuries, with actions to strengthen nursing care for these people, and thus improve the well-being of the elderly at the first level of care.
