Attitude Towards Research in Nursing Students in Northern Peru

Abstract

Introduction: The attitude towards research of the undergraduate student contributes to the construction of a solid training, it can be a reference on their inclination to carry out research in their professional future and generate a response to the needs of the population. However, sometimes research is perceived as a stressful, complicated, difficult and complex topic.

Objective: Describe the attitude towards research in nursing students in northern Peru.

Methods: Quantitative study with descriptive, cross-sectional design carried out from September to October 2022. The population was made up of 200 nursing students from the Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo Catholic University in Peru. The sample consisted of 117 students selected by non-probabilistic stratified sampling. The instrument was the “Attitudes towards Scientific Research Scale” Questionnaire, content validation was carried out with Aiken's V coefficient and by pilot testing Cronbach's alpha of 0.860 was obtained. Data collection was through an online Google Forms form. Descriptive statistics are used for data processing.

Results: The attitude of the nursing students was positive (88.00%) in its three dimensions, the cognitive aspect stands out (91.00%), along with the academic, bibliographic, temporality and corporate aspects.

Conclusions: Nursing university students have a good disposition towards research, which is why they should be promoted through extracurricular critical reading workshops, data analysis software, and subsidizing attendance at national and international conferences to disseminate their research.
