Knowledge and Practice of Values in School Children from an Educational Institution in Huanuco, Peru

Introduction: Nowadays, an education based on values is required to form integral citizens, with full capacity to face a very complex, diverse and changing reality with a critical attitude. The lack of values originates social problems that affect social development.
Objective: To describe the relationship between knowledge and practice of values in primary school children.
Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational study was carried out at Institución Educativa San Pedro de Huánuco in 2022. The population consisted of 80 students of fifth and sixth grades of primary school. A questionnaire was designed and applied to measure knowledge and an observation guide was used to measure the practice of values, developed by the authors. Spearman's rho correlations test was used for inferential analysis.
Results: 67.50 % of the students scored a medium level of knowledge and 68.80 % showed good level in the practice of values, with a positive significant correlation between knowledge and the practice of values practice (rs = 0.83; p = 0.000); likewise, there was a positive significant correlation between the practice of values and the dimensions of knowledge of values, such as as knowledge generalities (rs = 0.37; p = 0.001), knowledge of respect (rs = 0.82; p = 0.000) and knowledge of responsibility (rs = 0.79; p = 0.000).
Conclusions: There is a relationship between knowledge and practice of values in primary level students of an educational institution in Huánuco, Peru.
