Strategy of integration of formal and not formal cares in the old man in the community

Introduction: Care for the elderly in need is an alternative solution to the phenomenon of demographic transition with an increase in people over 65 years of age.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an educational strategy to integrate formal and non-formal care for the elderly in need in the community.
Methods: Quasi-experimental study. Polyclinic "José Martí Pérez", Santiago de Cuba, period 2019 to 2021. The universe was made up of 36 nurses and 36 family caregivers for the elderly. A strategy was designed based on the referents identified in the historical and bibliometric studies and the diagnosis of the previous descriptive study, applied in the community to address the actions of the clinical care and humanized clinical care phases. After applying the population proportions were compared using McNemar.
Results: The degree of kinship and attention time of the non-formal caregivers predominated the grandchildren with 25.00 %, the age groups of 1-5 years with 38.88 %. Positive changes were achieved after the intervention, with 6 (16.66 %) in formal caregivers and 7 (19.94 %) in non-formal ones.
Conclusions: The strategy of integration of formal and non-formal care in the elderly in a state of need in the community is evaluated as effective, with actions to strengthen care in the nurse-family binomial in the integration process and thus improve well-being. of the elderly at the first level of care.
