Intergenerational care and breastfeeding by grandmothers in Bié, Angola: an ancestral practice of current relevance

Abstract

This letter describes an experience observed at the Provincial Pediatric Hospital of Cuito-Bié, Angola, where a grandmother was breastfeeding her grandchild. From this event, the practice of breastfeeding by older women is examined as a form of intergenerational care in highly vulnerable settings. The letter explores its physiological, ethical, and cultural foundations, emphasizing the essential role of Nursing in supporting and studying these realities through an intercultural and humanistic lens.
