Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus type 2 affects multiple organs; therefore, periodic monitoring and therapeutic adherence are essential to prevent complications.
Objetive: To analyze the relationship between the effectiveness of health control records and integrated self-care management in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Method: Descriptive, correlational and retrospective study, conducted in the second semester/2024. Universe: totality of cards and medical records of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus under control (N=1,256). A sample of 295 records was delimited by simple random sampling. Confidence interval (CI95%) and alpha risk (α) of 0.05 were estimated.
The data were recorded on a form designed to fill in items of six dimensions. The form was validated by expert judges, selected for their clinical experience in PHC, knowledge of methodology and instrument validation.
Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. The statistical analysis was descriptive and predictive correlational, by Pearson coefficient and linear regression. The data were analyzed using SPSS software. Ethical aspects governing research with human beings were respected.
Results: The 66.20% of the cards belonged to the female sex and 69.00% were between 50-69 years old. The records reviewed showed good adherence to treatment and follow-up of controls. The linear regression model showed an observed variability in the level of self-care, explained by the six dimensions evaluated.
Conclusions: The study showed compliance with nursing instructions, with therapeutic adherence, optimal glycemic control, and absence of complications. The 73.40% of the overall self-care is explained by the evaluated dimensions.
