Introduction: Health promotion appears marked by transformations that, in the pedagogical sphere, still lack development, which affects nursing actions.
Objective: To explore the vision of the approach to health promotion in professors and students of the Nursing major.
Methods: A qualitative study with a cross-sectional and descriptive design was carried out in Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de Cienfuegos, Cuba, from June to September 2023. The population consisted of 83 participants, 10 professors and 73 students. The work was done with the universe of professors and, for the selection of students, theoretical sampling was used, which employed, as a selection criterion, to be a first-year student of the Nursing major, with whom two discussion groups were developed. The narratives were transcribed and grouped in textual body to perform content analysis from the inductive perspective.
Results: The need emerged for training on health promotion from education at work; to deepen the construct, elective times, own courses and training, or postgraduate course are suggested; apart from using virtual learning environments and support materials that guide such content.
Conclusions: Health promotion requires spaces where not only theoretical knowledge is taught, but also tools for a correct approach to health promotion; trained professors capable of applying active methodologies are needed.
