Influence of burnout syndrome on the quality of nursing care in the neonatology service

Introduction: Burnout Syndrome has long been considered as the physiological response of the human body to prolonged stress, it is caused by various emotional and interpersonal factors whose direct relationship is with the workloads that a worker has.
Objective: To identify the presence of Burnout Syndrome in the Nursing staff of the neonatology service.
Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study, carried out in the Neonatology service of the General Hospital of Riobamba, Ecuador, during the year 2021. To obtain the information, the Maslach Test was applied to 40 nurses from the Neonatology service. Data were summarized with absolute frequencies and percentages.
Results: Of the nurses studied, 60.00% were between 20 and 35 years of age, 97.50% of them were female with educational levels between third and fourth level. 95.00% of the study subjects presented high or medium levels of risk of Bornout syndrome.
Conclusions: It was determined that the sub-dimensions emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal fulfillment, reflected levels of risk of Burnout Syndrome between high and medium, results conditioned by a work context with pressure and high-level demands that resulted in exhaustion. and emotional disconnection, as well as the lack of support in the performance of daily activities.
