Validation of reed's self-transcendence scale in Cuban older adults from grandparents' houses

Introduction: Self-transcendence, from the theory of Dr. Pamela Reed, recognizes the human being in constant development during his life cycle, where the environment can influence both positively and negatively.
Objective: To validate the Pamela Reed scale of self-transcendence in older Cubans from grandparents' houses in the Sagua la Grande municipality.
Methods: Instrumental design study, where an instrument to measure self-transcendence in older adults was validated, carried out in the grandparents' house of La Isabela de Sagua, Sagua la Grande municipality, Villa Clara province, Cuba, from July to December 2022. The study was structured in three phases: integrative review for the selection of the scale, facial and content validation by expert criteria, and pilot test to determine the reliability of the instrument. The selection of the sample of 13 experts required the calculation of expert competence and for the pilot study the universe of 23 older adults from the place of study was selected. The reliability and internal consistency of the questionnaire was determined by Cronbach and McDonald.
Results: high coefficient of competence of experts, with whom the facial validity of the scale was established, according to clarity, precision and understanding with a predominance of maximum qualification. The experts rated its content as very suitable and quite suitable. High internal consistency of the instrument was obtained.
Conclusion: the scale was validated for its use in elderly Cubans from grandparents' houses, its use in research is pertinent.
