Introduction: Cancer is one of the healthcare challenges of this era, in which continuous or supportive care aims at improving human needs.
Objective: To characterize women with cervical cancer and their received nursing care.
Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted at Policlínico Arcelio Suárez Bernal, of Jatibonico, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, in the period 2019-2020. The population consisted of 12 women with cervical cancer and 28 nurses. Clinical records were reviewed, as well as patients and nurses were surveyed; demographic and clinical variables were studied, together with satisfaction regarding the provided nursing care and the level of nursing information on continuous care. Absolute frequency distributions and percentages were used.
Results: Women between 40 and 44 years of age predominated. The health status was good in 58.33 % of the patients and 83.33 % were asymptomatic. Nursing care was acceptable in 75 % and minimum continuous care was so in 83.33 %. The level of information on continuous nursing care was low in 53.57 %.
Conclusions: The studied women with cervical cancer were characterized by being of average age, in good health, with few or no clinical manifestations of the disease and with an acceptable assessment of their received nursing care. The nurses who attend them require a better level of information on the continuous care of women with this condition.
